The Institute for forage crops Kruševac is a national research institute with a long tradition (established as a citizens' organization in 1884). The Institute is specialized in the research of different fodder species. Most of the researched species are common components of Serbia’s natural grasslands. The institute takes care of a germplasm collection of Poaceae and Fabaceae species that belong to Festuca, Lolium, Medicago, Trifolium genus, etc. The Institute has facilities for commercial seed cleaning and also a cold chamber for seed storage; it also has laboratories for phytopathology and microbiology, the glass-house, the equipment for soil preparation and sowing activities. The Institute is in the possession of about 40 ha of arable land for seed production and trail conduction. One part of the experiments are implemented on farmers’ land. The Institute provides new innovative solutions for soil degradation and grassland management; it also offers expert services in preservation of genetic resources, certified seed production, advisory and educational services for farmers, including Serbian Milk Producers Association.
