Who we are

The European Coordination Let’s Liberate Diversity! (EC-LLD) is a European, no-profit, Belgium/Italy-based organisation born spontaneously in 2005 and formally founded in 2012. EC- LLD draws its origins and inspiration from the annual gatherings of the European movement on agricultural biodiversity known as the Let's Liberate Diversity! Forums. The first edition of the forum took place in 2005 in Poitiers, France. Since then the LLD has become a tradition and they are organised in different European countries. These were followed by the Let’s Cultivate Diversity! forums, the same type of meetings but done directly on the farms!
Today, we have 15 seed savers organizations, seed networks, NGOs, from 12 different countries. Each of these organizations is composed of either individual that saved seeds or other organizations/networks. All the Members share the same concern that our food systems are too uniform and that promoting biodiversity is the key to achieving food sovereignty. The diversification can be achieved by linking the work of different actors involved supporting and
promoting their knowledge and actions associated with cultivated biodiversity. To achieve this vision it is essential to be a platform that promotes the exchange and sharing of experiences/points of views and policies (today's called Living Labs).
Furthermore one of the strategies EC-LLD is committed to being the dissemination of the Community Seed Banks. Founded in the early 1980th in many parts of the world and in Europe is mostly based on seed savers’, gardeners’, and farmers’ networks. Their main task is:
● maintain and develop agricultural agrobiodiversity
● enhance access to seeds and plants adapted to local conditions
● provide training and sensibilization activities
● contribute to sustainable agriculture and food sovereignty
